Risk-based Hazardous Materials Management
Hazardous materials present inherent risks that must be managed and controlled. This “birth-to-death” challenge
must be met from the time the materials are acquired to their disposal as waste.
AlphaTRAC provides a suite of services that helps its clients implement a fully integrated program of
hazards management.
Cleanup Strategies • • •
Many sites, facilities, and operations must address legacy hazards resulting from historical practices or past events
that have caused environmental contamination. AlphaTRAC develops risk-based cleanup strategies that gain the most
value for each dollar spent.
Each contamination concern is evaluated on a probabilistic risk basis. Then a plan of attack is developed to
prioritize cleanup so that higher-risk projects are prioritized ahead of less beneficial ones.
Legal and Regulatory Compliance • • •
Risk assessment is increasingly applied to evaluate environmental and human health threats from sites and
operations that use hazardous materials. Many such analyses are mandated by federal and state laws, such as the
Comprehensive Environmental Restoration, Cleanup and Liability Act (CERCLA), the National Environmental Policy
Act (NEPA), DOE Authorization Basis requirements, and the Risk Management Plan requirements of the Clean Air Act
Amendments. The staff of AlphaTRAC brings nationally recognized expertise in this area, most of it obtained from
actual experience at high-hazard facilities and operations.
Air Quality Analyses • • •
Scientists at AlphaTRAC are recognized for their expertise in air quality analysis.
Using regulatory-standard modeling tools and methods, AlphaTRAC can evaluate historical, existing,
and planned operations involving emissions of atmospheric pollutants. As needed, we develop and apply specialized
modeling techniques for unusual conditions such as complex terrain, ocean-shore
environments, complex mixtures, dense gases, or hazardous materials that exhibit unusual behavior during dispersion.
We can design and conduct analyses for a full range of
scopes, from single oil wells to regional air quality studies.
Where data is not readily available, AlphaTRAC can develop systems to collect it. Network design, equipment
selection, monitor installation, and data acquisition, analysis, and management are part of our integrated services.
