AlphaACT HAZMAT Application

The AlphaACT HAZMAT application is a decision support application that helps emergency decision makers determine how to deal with hazardous chemical releases when event information is sketchy or incomplete.
Extending and automating a crisis decision process developed for Incident Commanders in the U.S. Department of Energy, the AlphaACT HAZMAT application will help decision makers determine:
- The size of the fatality (isolation) zone
- The size of the casualty (protective action) zone

- Optional locations for incident command posts and traffic control points
The application helps decision makers rapidly reach good enough decisions in high-stress, multiple-distraction environments.
Future versions of the AlphaACT HAZMAT application will include:
- Larger libraries of chemical data
- The ability to assess biological, radiological, and nuclear material releases, as well as the effects of explosives
- Maps tailored to different response environments
- Authoring capabilities that will enable users to add scenarios to the application
